Out of Hours

If you have a severe problem such as difficulty breathing, chest pains or heavy bleeding you should call 999.

If you need care that cannot wait until the surgery is open, please ring 111 which is a free number. If phoning from a mobile you may be unable to connect to this number- you will then need to phone 0345 4647 instead.

Telephone advice on a range of medical conditions is available from NHS Direct 24 hours a day. Their number is 111.

These fact sheets have been written to explain the role of UK health services, the National Health Service (NHS), to newly-arrived individuals seeking asylum. They cover issues such as the role of GPs, their function as gatekeepers to the health services, how to register and how to access emergency services.
